Mallorca is a beach lover’s dream, with some of the most beautiful beaches in the Balearic Islands. With crystal-clear waters, beautiful white sand, and the dramatic backdrop of high cliffs, this island is a paradise for those looking for unreal natural beauty. From hidden coves to wide, open shores, each beach offers something unique. In this guide, I’ll take you through some of my favorite places to visit, showcasing the variety of different beaches that make North Mallorca and its surrounding areas such a special destination.

ARRIVING IN MALLORCA
Your adventure begins as you land at Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), the main gateway to the island. This airport is well-connected with direct flights from major cities in Europe. Once you arrive, the best way to explore Mallorca is by renting a car. Public transportation is limited, and having your own car gives you the freedom to discover the best beaches, hidden coves, and charming old towns at your own pace.
WHEN TO VISIT
MAY, JUNE & SEPTEMBER: The ideal months to visit! The island is warm but with fewer crowds, making it perfect for enjoying the sights. Plus, better hotel availability and prices.
JULY & AUGUST: Summer months is the high season and it can get extremely hot, and the island will be packed with tourists. Expect higher accommodation prices and limited availability.
APRIL & OCTOBER: More affordable rates and plenty of availability. The weather is usually pleasant, but it can be a bit hit or miss. Some places on the island might not be fully operational, so it’s a good idea to check what’s open or closed before booking.
NOVEMBER – MARCH: Do not visit because its cold and can be rainy and many places will be closed.
MALLORCA TRAVEL TIPS
GETTING AROUND MALLORCA
A rental car is essential since everything is so spread out and public transportation isn’t the most convenient. Having your own car allows you to explore Mallorca’s best beaches, hidden calas, and charming old towns with ease. Make sure to arrive early as there is limited parking availability near beaches and many of these small parking lots fill up quickly.
CALA
The word “Cala” means “cove” in Spanish, and Mallorca is filled with beautiful hidden calas—small, secluded beaches surrounded by cliffs and clear blue waters. Some of the best calas include Cala Deià, Cala Llombards, and Cala de sa Calobra.
- Keep in mind that many of these calas can be rocky, so water shoes are essential!
- Bring Floaties & Snorkel Gear. The water is crystal clear—perfect for snorkeling
- Bring a portable air pump to inflate and deflate floats
- Snorkeling Gear to explore the underwater world and see some beautiful fish
CURRENCY
Mallorca uses the Euro (€), so make sure to have some cash on hand, although credit cards are widely accepted.
LANGUAGE
Spanish is the official language, but many people also speak Catalan. English is commonly spoken in tourist areas, but it’s always a nice touch to learn a few basic phrases.

Mallorca is all about beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, fresh seafood, and best views—a perfect combination of beach time and exploring.
CALA DEIÀ
Ca’s Patro March
Cala Deià is a small, intimate beach surrounded by rocky cliffs and lush greenery, with calm waters perfect for swimming and floating. The secluded cove is surrounded by dramatic cliffs and lush greenery, it’s the perfect spot to spend the day. Take a dip in the clear turquoise waters, and if you pack snorkels and floatie, go snorkeling or just relax on a float. We bought a tiny pump on amazon and it was the best purchase. Blows up/deflates floats in 1-2 minutes! The beach is small and intimate, giving it a more secluded feel. There are a few spots for cliff jumping if you’re feeling adventurous. The beach has a small parking area, so arrive early (before 10am) to secure a spot, or be prepared to park uphill and walk down.
You can grab lunch at Ca’s Patro March, a cozy beachside restaurant that sits on the hill with stunning views of the Mediterranean. The seafood here is great, but make sure to make reservations on their website as it gets very busy, and spots go quickly.
CALA DE SA CALOBRA
Cala de sa Calobra is one of the most dramatic and breathtaking beaches in Mallorca, and one of my favorite beach spots. Nestled between two towering cliffs, this beach feels like a secret paradise hidden away from the world. You can arrive by boat for a stunning view of the coastline or take the winding road that snakes through the mountains. The drive is a bit of a challenge with sharp turns and steep climbs, but the stunning views along the way make it well worth it. We saw plenty of cyclists on the road, so be careful—it’s narrow with tight spots.
Once you arrive, park your car and head through two tunnels carved into the mountains. It’s about a 15-minute walk, but walking through the tunnels feels almost magical. After you come out of the second tunnel, you’ll need to walk a little further until you reach the beach. The beach itself is stunning— clear blue water and smooth pebbles beneath your feet. You’ll feel completely surrounded by nature, with the cliffs towering above you and the gentle sound of the waves crashing on the shore. It’s the perfect spot to cool off with a swim or just relax and soak in the peaceful vibe. Keep in mind, there are no sun beds or shade, so bring your own umbrella. There are a few spots for cliff jumping into the refreshing water below. If you get hungry, there are a couple of restaurants near the parking lot where you can grab a bite.
CALA MURTA
Cala Murta is a secluded beach located on the Formentor Peninsula in northern coast of Mallorca, near Port de Pollença. It’s accessible via a 25-minute walk from the nearest parking area, adding to its peaceful and remote charm. Nestled between two lush slopes, the beach has a peaceful atmosphere, perfect if you are looking to escape the crowds. The shoreline is made up of pebbles, and shallow water, making it a great spot for a relaxing swim or to just cool off. There are no facilities at Cala Murta, so it’s important to bring essentials like water, snacks, and a towel to enjoy your time here fully. The beach’s serene surroundings and lack of crowds make it an ideal retreat for nature lovers.
CALA TUENT
Cala Tuen is a quiet beach on Mallorca’s northwest coast, that is a tranquil retreat away from the island’s more frequented spots. Approximately a 50-minute drive from Sóller, the journey to the beach is as rewarding as the destination itself, with scenic views of the rugged Serra de Tramuntana mountains. The beach itself is pebbly with warm, crystal-clear waters. The dramatic mountain backdrop adds to its beauty, creating a truly scenic spot to relax. There are limited facilities, so be sure to bring what you need for the day. The area is also great for hiking, with trails leading to panoramic viewpoints and historic watchtowers. If you’re up for an adventure, Torrent de Pareis in nearby Sa Calobra is a must-visit—this dramatic gorge is one of the island’s most famous natural wonders.
CALA TORTA
Cala Torta is a calm, laid-back beach with fine white sand and crystal-clear waters. This unspoiled small cove, offers a wild, natural setting far from the island’s more developed beaches. Backed by rolling hills and dunes, the beach has a rugged, untouched feel. There are no facilities on-site, so be sure to bring your own food, water, and beach essentials. If you’re looking for a beach off the beaten track, Cala Torta is a fantastic choice.
PLATJA DE ALCÚDIA
Platja de Alcúdia is one of the longest and most popular beaches in Mallorca, stretching for nearly 7 kilometers along the island’s northeastern coast. With its beautiful white sand and shallow, calm waters, it’s a great spot for families, especially those with young children. The beach is well-equipped with sun beds, umbrellas, and beachfront restaurants, making it easy to spend an entire day here. The area also has plenty of water sports, from paddle boarding to jet skiing, and there’s a scenic promenade lined with shops and cafés. Thanks to its easy access and a wide range of amenities, Platja de Alcúdia is one of the best beaches for a relaxing and convenient beach day in Mallorca.
BEYOND THE NORTH: Stunning Beaches in Southern Mallorca that are a must visit:
CALÓ DES MORO
A somewhat remote beach, Calo Des Moro is one of the island’s most beautiful hidden spots. It’s a small beach with soft, golden fine sand and crystal-clear waters that shimmer in the sunlight. Tucked between cliffs, it feels like a peaceful retreat, far from the crowds. The shallow water makes it perfect for a refreshing swim or just wading in and enjoying the view.
Since this beach is small, I highly suggest arriving early to claim a spot, especially during the warmer months when it fills up quickly. Keep in mind that there’s limited space to sit, so getting there early is key. The access involves a bit of a hike—there’s a steep hill to climb down, and you’ll need to make your way back up, so wear comfortable shoes. There are no food vendors here, so be sure to pack a light lunch or snack.
CALA S'ALMUNIA
When Cala Des Moro gets crowded, head over to Cala s’Almunia, a great spot just a short 10-minute walk away. This beach has a more rugged vibe, with rocky terrain and clear waters perfect for snorkeling. The underwater world here is full of marine life, so bring your snorkeling gear. If you’re feeling adventurous again, there are also a few cliffs that are great for cliff jumping, adding a bit of excitement to your beach day. Just be prepared for the rocky landscape, which makes it a more rugged but equally beautiful spot.
CALA MONDRAGÓ
Cala Mondragó is one of Mallorca’s most beautiful beaches, located within Mondragó Natural Park on the island’s southeastern coast. Surrounded by pine forests and rocky cliffs, this sandy beach is known for its shallow, turquoise waters. The calm sea is perfect for swimming and snorkeling, with plenty of marine life to spot beneath the surface.
Despite its natural setting, Cala Mondragó has some facilities, including a small beach bar, restrooms, and sunbeds for rent. There are also scenic walking trails around the area with stunning coastal views. Since it’s one of the most popular beaches, it can get busy, so arriving early is a good idea.
CALA LLOMBARDS
One of Mallorca’s most popular beaches, Cala Llombards is a breathtaking spot with fine white sand and turquoise waters, perfect for a relaxing beach day. This easy access beach is surrounded by dramatic cliffs, offering both stunning scenery and a laid-back vibe.
The soft sand makes it great for young children, providing a comfortable place to play and swim. Arrive early to secure a good spot, as this beach gets busy during peak hours. If you didn’t bring your own beach gear, chairs and umbrellas are available for rent. There’s a small beachfront restaurant, making it easy to grab a drink or a quick bite without leaving the sand. If you’re feeling adventurous and want some excitement, Cala Llombards also has fun cliff jumping spots and excellent snorkeling with colorful marine life and hidden caves along the shore.
CALA MÀRMOLS
Cala Màrmols, although located on the south coast of Mallorca, this is a perfect place for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy a more remote beach experience. Situated off the beaten track, it’s accessible only by a long hike or boat trips. The 1.5-hour trek from the lighthouse is challenging, so be sure to wear sturdy shoes and take precautions against the sun. Despite the hike, the reward is worth it—this stunning cove with crystal-clear waters and fine white sand feels like a hidden paradise. The beach is serene, with boat tours passing by, but hikers can enjoy the beach all day without the time limit of a boat tour. It’s the perfect place for a peaceful day surrounded by nature, though be sure to pack snacks and water, as there are no facilities.
CALA PI
Cala Pi is a beautiful and peaceful sandy beach located on the southern coast of Mallorca, about 45 minutes from Palma. It’s a small, crescent-shaped bay surrounded by steep cliffs, which gives it a secluded and protected feel. The beach is known for its calm, turquoise waters, making it ideal for a swim or a relaxing day by the sea. The sand here is soft, and the water is shallow near the shore, so it’s great for families with young children.
To get to CALA PI, you’ll have to take a short walk down a staircase that leads you to the beach, but the effort is totally worth it when you see the stunning views. While the beach is small, there’s plenty of room to spread out. One thing to keep in mind is that the beach doesn’t have facilities, bring your own beach gear, like an umbrella or a towel for extra comfort.
